You’re not too old for bronzer

Last Updated on January 5, 2021 by Kristen

In my younger days, I fake tanned, and in my younger younger days, I real tanned. I’ve always loved a sun-kissed look, but as the years passed, it became obvious that real tanning was out of the question, and I felt bronzer was aging.

Not so, according to veteran makeup artist to the stars (including Blondie and Christie Brinkley), Sandy Litner. Just because you’re over 50 doesn’t mean you should be  afraid of bronzer (she’s 74!).

“I use it on everyone over 50 because it warms up the skin in a natural way,” Litner tells Vogue. She sweeps Serge Lutens Complexion Perfector “under the cheekbone, down the sides of the nose, across the forehead, and under the jawline for a chiseled glow.”

Creating warmth is important for skin over 50, Litner says. She advises going a shade warmer with concealer or foundation rather than attempting to match it exactly to avoid a washed-out look. “If it’s too matchy-matchy, it can age you,” she tells Vogue. But don’t forget to blend it into the neck to erase any trace of a color differential.
