We have long held the point of view that less is more when it comes to makeup on mature skin. Foundation settles into wrinkles, eyeshadow makes eyelids look crepey, lipstick runs into those fine vertical lines—or so we thought.
Recently, we’ve encountered some over-50 women on Instagram who are so talented with makeup that they’ve made us rethink our minimalist ways.
The before-and-afters don’t lie. Excellent lighting aside, it’s clean that skin is more even, dewy, and glowing after these artists get to work. Eyes are opened-up and even lifted in their talented hands. And not that it’s our ultimate goal to look younger, but there’s no doubt makeup is taking years off in these cases.
We’re still not talking heavy Kardashian-style maquillage. But just the right amount of eye color, lipstick, foundation, brow pencil, etc. in the hands of these talented artists can work wonders, as you can clearly see below.
Who knows, we may even try eyeliner again! Do you have any mature-skin makeup tips? We’d love to hear about them in the comments.
Stung by Samantha
We’ve been following San Francisco-based Samantha for a while now, and it’s been wonderful to see her following grow like gangbusters. Last year, she landed a position on the coveted Sephora Squad, and it’s not hard to see why. Her effervescent personality shines during her makeup tutorials and reviews. She also has created many exercise and fashion haul videos on her YouTube channel.
Elan Bongiorno
This woman makes magic, as you can see below. Her tutorials are addictive, thanks in part to her charming New York accent and, despite her fancy-makeup ways, her down to earth style. The transformation below is one of our favorites; also check out her New Year’s Eve eye tutorial for a mature skin dramatic eye .
Colette Vanpaemel
This beauty is a Maskcara Beauty artist, which seems like a smart career path considering this. Colette has the best bangs, and her tutorials are easy to follow with gorgeous results.
Lori Aldous
Lori is another Maskcara Beauty artist, and we’re really into her straightforward approach and how-tos on specific challenges like mature eye shadow, filling in brows, plus how to apply highlighter and contouring on mature skin.
Shirley Anthony
We are completely mesmerized by this feed. The makeup is definitely a bit more dramatic than we’re comfortable with at least on a daily basis, but we love this grandmother’s willingness to go for it when it comes to color. And how does she pose in precisely the same position for every single photo??
