Inauguration Day was beautiful for many reasons: The peaceful transition of power, a new leader with a soul, and a parade of stunning jewel-toned outfits on the women of the day, to name just a few.
First Lady Dr. Jill Biden looked amazing in her blue ensemble. But Michelle Obama’s burgundy outfit was the one that really stayed with me and made want to emulate it. The the pants, the coat, the belt, oh my god indeed. But above all, the color!
Then I remembered that I wasn’t going anywhere ever.
Still, I can’t get that color out of my mind. In case you’re wondering Obama’s stylist, Merideth Koop, is calling the hue of the Sergio Hudson outfit “wineberry plum” and definitely not bipartisan purple.
“That’s a cute story, but it wasn’t the intention,” she wrote on her Instagram.
She also explained that it wasn’t a jumpsuit or even a pantsuit, but separates. Each custom-made piece was a slightly different shade of rich berry and I want some of that in my life, don’t you?
But since most of us don’t have socially-distanced presidential inaugurations to attend in the near future, I selected a few pieces in that gorgeous plum, burgundy, wine (my mom used to call it maroon but I don’t think it deserves that) shade that that you can lounge around in or wear to the grocery store to feel a little bit of that Michelle Obama magic. I threw a few fancier pieces in there, too, just in case you’re feeling optimistic about the spring.
